I wanted to create a simple chart to show electricity consumption vs. the outdoor temperature. Prerequisites: There are a lot of guides and videos of how to install HACS and ApexCharts if you don’t already have it. Just Google it 🙂 Summary Measure power usage I have a lot of different heating options, like floor-heating, heat pump and panel oven. …

After a power failure today, my ESXi server didn’t boot. I ran my ESXi installation from an USB-stick and the screen just went to black when trying to boot from it. As my setup is almost default, the easiest fix is just to re-install it from scratch. Getting newest available version of ESXi Look like VMware is still greedy and …

Testing Home Assistant Glow for reading my electricity usage in Home Assistant.

While testing the Uppy.io file uploader I struggled with some CORS-errors. Almost the whole day was wasted troubleshooting and debugging. Trying different headers, debugging network-traffic and reading stack overflow. The browser returned a CORS-error and Uppy itself returned a network traffic error. 99% of all issues and google-results pointed to an api/server issue with my headers. The weird part was …

Found some great docker-images to use in local projects. It’s well documentet in github here: https://github.com/sebastienheyd/docker-self-signed-proxy-companion Here is an example of docker-compose from the github repo: This guide can help you to add the certificate in Chrome: https://www.pico.net/kb/how-do-you-get-chrome-to-accept-a-self-signed-certificate/

I bought a Philips Hue Being ceiling lamp. This is pre-paired with a remote and can be added to the Hue bridge with its serial number. This a nice feature and easy if you have a Hue-bridge, but how do you get it into deCONZ? The manual does not say anything about how to unpair it. When I google, I …

For almost two years ago, I wrote an article about controlling by garagedoor with the Qubino Flush 1D Relay. I always had a plan to add some status-sensor to the garage door. I started with a 433MHz sensor, but it was never a success. It was hard to place a magnet-sensor and 433MHz is not the best option – so …

For some reason the Leaf-component in Home Assistant has not been working for some time. Since November 2020 according to the community forum. UPDATE: Before you read any futher… Home Assistant bumped pycarwings2 to 2.10 in the last 2020.12.2 release. I actually found this out just when I was going to add the data from the solution below, into HA. …

Usually I just use root-password to setup a server for the first time, but this time I decided to try SSH key upon creating the server – instead of adding it afterwards. That was a bad move. No supported authentication methods available (server sent public key) I didn’t find any root-password. Probably because Digital Ocean don’t tell you that if …

Sonos and UniFi

After using two workdays to configure four Sonos speakers for a youth club at work, I found that Sonos has big issues with their onboarding. There are several of forums with problems around Sonos and UniFi-network, but I think this is more a Sonos- or timing-issue, than a network issue. I gave up the Sonos Beam the first day, after …

It is about 5 months since i wrote Housegard Note – Smokealarm (it works, kinda). I can happily say that we have had no fire in the house since I started to test these – but there have not been any false alarms either. I bought this for testing when we started renovating an apartment in the basement. As the …

I installed Home Assistant on a old computer with Ubuntu server back in 2016. Lately they have released Hass.io, HassOS and changed the name of the basic Home Assistant to Home Assistant Core… I think… There has been a lot of names to keep track on here. I believe I had Home Assistant Core and migrated to HassOS/Hass.io now. My …

I recently bought two Housegard Note smokealarms, with the hub. They kinda works, but it’s not «Apple». Before I get to the Housegard, I will say something about my testing and choices so far. In the last five years, I have tested four Fibaro smoke detectors. When I first bought them, there wasn’t a lot of choices – it was …

In this post, I created a simple PHP-to-MQTT integration for Telldus Tellstick. I used CloudMQTT as a broker, but after upgrading HA to 0.107 it stopped working for some reason. When I started to troubleshoot this, I started wondering why I have used a third-party broker. Maybe it was before I started with docker… So i just fired up an …

My Roborock started to make some weird noises. Sounded like the start of a broken fan/motor. I googled a bit, and found that I was not the first one. I found a similar problem from another person that uploaded a video on YouTube. I contacted Xiaomi support and got this response 40 minutes later: You could try methods below.1. Empty …

I have been using cameras at home since late 90’s, mostly for fun. When we bought a house in 2011, the usage changed. I started with a camera to check if the garage door was open or closed, then a weather-camera, then a camera in the stable to check on the horses and so on.

Time goes fast. It’s almost 1 1/2 year since (07.08.2018 to be exact) we bought the Xiaomi Roborock vacuum cleaner, and it’s one of my best investment ever made!

For a long time, the disk on Home Assistant box has been slowly filling up. I found that is was the MySQL DB docker container that took up all the space. My setup My Home Assistant runs in docker on an old Dell 7010 with Ubuntu 18.04. Data is recorded in another MySQL docker container. The HA container is running …

I recently got a new 4K Apple TV. I replaced this with my old Apple TV 4 in the living-room. Suddenly I could not turn off my TV anymore. When I turned off the TV and/or put the Apple TV to sleep, it took 2-3 seconds and it turned itself on again. I googled and started debugging. All the steps …

Ubiquiti USG

Last week I switched my router from Sophos XG to Ubiquiti (UBNT) USG (UniFi Security Gateway). The setup The setup was a bit tricky. First I tried to plug it in my existing network with a laptop connected to the LAN-port. I could reach the USG, but as most of the configuration is done in the UniFi-controller, I just had …

If you are running internal server/services that need to be reached on the Internet, you probably have a DNS set up for them. To reach this services on their DNS, from your local network, you need edit the host-file on the USG. For my case, one of the services was Home Assistant, which is configured with DNS and certificates. This …

My girlfriend has a horse. The horse needed a house. So we built a house (stable). The stable is about 10 meters from our house. To smartify the stable (controlling lights and monitoring temperature, humidity and CO2) I needed cabled network and a new smarthome-gateway. I already have Home Assistant and a Z-wave network in the house, but the stable is …

Expanding disk on Linux can always be a pain. Most guides I found requires a restart, which is not always that popular on an production server. This guide was written as we had to expand a disk on our internal webserver at work, running Ubuntu server 16.04.

After problem upgrading to v0.65, I moved my Home Assistant (HA) to docker. Trying to upgrade in virtual environment (VE) was giving an error message that i needed Python 3.5.3.

It’s about a year ago since i wrote about a panic button setup with the Fibaro Button and Telldus/Tellstick. As I moved my Z-wave devices to Home Assistant, the Button scenes hasn’t been supported and therefore my button has been put away until now.

One of the main reasons for getting into more advanced smarthome, was smoke detectors. I was looking for a control panel for smoke detectors that could notify me if anything triggers, and especially if something triggers in my rental apartment. I ended up with Fibaro smoke sensor (FGSD002) and Home Assistant (HA).

IKEA Trådfri

I recently bought an IKEA Trådfri gateway and some bulbs. This was a great and cheap supplement for automating my last missing lights. I have two ceiling lights in my hallway. I bought a Double Switch from Fibaro, but it’s a tight fit behind the switch on the wall. Buying two new separate relays for each light would cost too …

Home Assistant

Home Assistant is probably the most flexible and powerful smart home-gateway at this moment!

It’s almost time for a new LAN-party event I’m hosting with 20 others. Not all in the crew are as technical, so this time I wanted a game server management, so others could manage the game servers.

I found this: https://github.com/glynhudson/leaf-python-mqtt, and thought it was a simple task… But nooooo. I have very little experience with MQTT, other than the basics, so this took some time 🙂

I was so impressed with this car-stereo/player that I have to write some few words about it 🙂 First a little history We have an old Volvo V40 (2000-mod). The default car-stereo has radio, cd and cassette, which is not that bad for this old car. In the first 6 months of this year (2017), Norway has switched from radio/FM …

Using default git-commands are easy enough (if you are used to it), but this month I have started up two new projects on a clean computer. Setting up git for the first time is not a big issue, but I always start Googling – so this is a simple «from scratch» guide for starting with git on a clean Windows-computer …

I wanted to test a camera with WiFi this time for easier placement, so I bought two different cameras – one from Ebay and the other from Alibaba. It was not before I got the packages that I realized they were basically the same cameras. Both cameras is branded HJT and it looks like they have the same firmware. The …

Belive it or not… Finding a simple ping software to monitor some of your devices and your Internet is actually hard. There is a lot of software out there for it. Most of them works, but they are mostly crap and a lot of them cost money. Info: My blog has now moved from robertan.com to robert.stadsbygd.net. A little history: For about 15 years ago I registered a modem dialup connection with the username robert, but something went wrong. I tried a new user with the username roberta… I can’t really remember why, but I ended up with the username robertan in the end. So my first …

I have used Sophos XG at home for about one week now, and I could not have been happier 🙂 For the last year I have tried most of the software firewalls out there, but let’s face it, I am a home user – I need a simple and nice GUI! It does not matter how great a functionality is, if you …

Telldus has realeased local plugins for beta-testing (04-04.2017). I love it! You can read the announcement here: http://developer.telldus.se/blog/2017/04/04/testers-wanted-for-tellstick-plugins

Heatmiser has now released gen 2 of their NeoHub, with Apple HomeKit. I was quick to preorder – and I just received and connected it. It is now 1 1/2 year since I mounted my Neohub (first generation) and the neoStat thermostat; see my post about it here. I don’t think there is a lot to say about Gen 2. It has …

One of the drawbacks of using MySQL community is the lack of tools to analyze the server and queries, but with a little help from the Percona Toolkit, this gets a little bit easier.

As I’m renting out part of my house, it’s important for me to know if anyone tries to tamper with the smoke-alarms. Fibaro smoke sensor has a tamper-switch, but it doesn’t look like Telldus Live supports an event for the tamper yet – or I don’t know how to.

I recently bought a NorthQ Power Reader (NQ-9021-EU) from Proshop. The Power Reader supports Z-wave and should be compatible with Telldus/Tellstick Znet. The Power Reader reads your power consumption from the power meter in or next to your fuse box. This helps you track your power consumption. At first, everything looked great, but it has been a long road to get …

When I was a little boy, almost every home had a simple phone connected to a landline. I don’t know how old I was when I started to call my friends and family by pushing in the numbers from a note, but I was probably pretty young. So in case of an emergency, I could probably just call for help. Now …

I just got my Tellstick ZNet Lite v2 that I bought from Netonnet for 1290 NOK. I also have the first Znet Lite, so this isn’t the biggest upgrade for me. I only bought it because it can send and receive 433 MHz, so now I can replace my old Tellstick Net and Znet Lite with just this one box.

21.01.2016 Telldus announced a closed beta for their Local API on the ZNet Lite. 24.05.2016 they opened the Local API to public beta. Local API let’s you connect and fetch data directly from the Tellstick ZNet without going through Telldus Live, which can be a huge advantage as it’s faster and more stable.

Just to make it easier for me to find, I’m posting a Jquery boilerplate from Stefan Gabos.

Alternative #1: Use the webpage https://www.messenger.com/. Alternative #2: Download the unofficial Messenger for desktop app, https://messengerfordesktop.com/. This is actually the webpage in a shell. This is based on a open source project. But the page tries to push some other apps on you now, so I’m running away from this app 🙁 My recommendation, Alternative #3: Use the Windows app by Facebook, https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/p/messenger/9wzdncrf0083.

I have had a lot of problems with the Facebook advertising earlier. When advertising a 100% Norwegian page, to the local community, I got a lot of foreigners that has no relation to the page or product at all. Why? I found a video that has an explanation today: It have been running a lot of advertising the last months …

Using Adldap2

I have been using Adldap v4.x at my work for a while now. After installing a test-server with PHP7, I found that the Adldap needed to be updated. I started with Adldap 5.x, but in the middle of the testing, it looked like the Adldap-project wasn’t maintained anymore. So I had to jump over to Adldap2, which wasn’t as straight …

This little project took me about 25 hours, because of a lot of debugging and very little documentation for error messages regarding eBot. With this tutorial I will hopefully help someone else (and future me) to do this in 1-2 hours instead 🙂 My setup Ubuntu 16.04 running as a VM in ESXi 6 eBot v3.1 My local IP for the server …

UniFi Controller: 4.8.18 (Running on a Windows 10 client) Laptop with wireless, running Windows 10, for testing. This article will focus more on debugging than on the setup itself, as there are multiple of howto-guides everywhere on the Internet. My guest …

Install the Let’s Encrypt client $ git clone https://github.com/letsencrypt/letsencrypt $ cd letsencrypt I didn’t have git installed, so I just downloaded it from Github and added it under /opt/letsencrypt on the server. My last Pi’s was one of the first ones (2x USB) from around 2012/13. I just bought the new Pi 3, but not all was straight forward… First of all, the filesystem is limited to 3,5 GB of my 16GB SD Card – after creating it with the Win32 Disk Imager and the default Raspbian image. «df -h» shows that …

Just wasted a couple of hours troubleshooting the PHP error: AH00052: child pid 2460 exit signal Segmentation fault (11). The browser (Google Chrome) just returned: ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE. The /var/log/httpd/my_virtual_domain-error_log didn’t say anything. But the default /var/log/httpd/error_log printed this error [core:notice] [pid 1400] AH00052: child pid 2682 exit signal Segmentation fault (11) for every page request. The problem was actually a PHP recursive error, which …

In progress… This post will be updated if I get any more information/fixes… I currently have a web-server (Centos6) hosted at a third-party. Today the Inodes usage was 100% for the second time in 3 months. It looks like it’s the PHP sessions that fills up. Last time I tried to edit the session-settings in php.ini, but didn’t seem to have any affect, …

I have been aware of what PHP Composer has been for a long time, but I never used it before these last days. My goal was to «install» Adldap2 and replace it with the first deprecated version. This wasn’t as straight forward as I thought, because of bad or not relevant documentation everywhere. Almost every documentation about PHP Composer shows what …

Here is a little function to find Norwegian holidays in PHP. The holidays are returned in array with Unix timestamp as key and name of the day as value.

To follow-up the article “Why not to buy Nissan Leaf or Grundig Television”, Nissan actually released a brand new app to the iPhone now. I think it’s appropriate to mention a few words about their new app, since I wrote that this was one of the reasons why not to buy a Nissan Leaf. Why Carwings was a problem? I …

I successfully tested the Fibaro smoke sensor with my (Telldus) Tellstick Znet Lite today. Summary: Add it to Association Group 2 under Device settings in Telldus Live. Test it with REAL smoke, as test-alarm won’t trigger. The Fibaro smoke sensor …is actually a beautiful little thing, compared to other ugly smoke sensors. It has some nice features like tamper-protection/alert and …

You are probably asking yourself how these two can be compared, and I will try to elaborate in this article. Let’s start with something else, the Apple iPhone. When the iPhone was released, people always got the new iOS. It didn’t really matter if Apple released one, two or three new iPhones after yours – you still got the latest …

In September, I received my floor thermostat from Heatmiser, neoKit-e. I replaced my old standard bathroom thermostat with my new neoStat-e, here in Norway. I have had some positive experience with the heatmiser thermostat earlier, as my brother has two of them on his cabin in Sweden. The heatmiser neoStat is a “smart” thermostat that can be controlled by your …

When a webserver uses 100% of the diskspace, there is not enough space to create a session in PHP. In other words people cannot login to your web-application. I had some problems with the httpd logs (/var/log/httpd) over some time with one single webserver. The access log can take up to mulitple gigabytes. After deleting the logs, everything worked fine. After …

Today I received my Telldus Znet Lite! I’m not really sure why I bought this, as I already have an Telldus Net. But my passion for home-automation could not resist 🙂 So, what is Telldus Znet Lite? It’s a little box that sends and receive wireless signals to different devices in your home, and let you control these devices from your …

Update: After I fixed the driver conflict and auto turnoff, the headset actually worked great and I got to like it a little. I also heard some rumours that the noises when turning on/off the headset could be fixed in the manifest xml file – but I haven’t tried that yet. I would still not recommend it because of the high …

Today I installed and tested Fedora Server 23. This version of Fedora comes with cockpit, which are a web-interface for server monitoring. I have mostly used CentOS up to now, but Fedora looks more interesting for the reasons I will mention below. To add my CentOS servers to the Cockpit monitoring, I need to install Cockpit on them as well. Setting up …

We just bought some Netatmo devices (Weather station components) at work, to monitor the air-quality in our office. After using it for 3 days, I am a bit stunned over how much you can use this devices for. The data itself are interesting enough, but when integrating this data in to a smarthome, you can actually «see» where the people …

If you want to control your garage doors with Telldus, you need a wireless receiver and connect it with your garagedoor-motor push-button input. I bought RX-multi from portspesialisten in Norway.

Just found a PHP Benchmark page that can be helpful when writing PHP. In most cases you don’t gain much if your writing a while-loop instead of a foreach, but you can gain some in bigger applications. See PHP Benchmark results here: http://www.phpbench.com/ (Be aware that these results are live, so they will change in every refresh).

Every time I leave my computer alone, I lock it! I needed a simple way to take product images on a local webpage. Instead of taking a picture with you phone, send image to your computer and upload it – why not use a simple webcam?

We have a portal/intranet-webpage at my work, running with Apache, PHP and MySQL. In 2011, a colleague and me sat 16 hours (without a break) and configured kerberos authentication with the Linux webserver. Now in 2015 we needed kerberos with a new webserver. We did write a doc back in 2011, but when you sit for 16 hours – the …

Klokkebank

Sparebank 1 (a Norwegian bank) has released a “wristwatch”-bank app for the Pebble smartwatch (named “klokkebank”). It’s a few weeks since they published some news about this, but it seems it took some time to get the iOS companion app to be approved. On 5. december, the iOS app was finally released. I tried the app for the first time …

OpenHAB is a automation software for your home. OpenHAB is open source and supports a huge list of bindings to control all types of smarthouse-gadgets from different suppliers.

I followed the tutorial on phpdoc.org: http://phpdoc.org/docs/latest/getting-started/installing.html#system-requirements. This tutorial will guide you through the install of an SMS server on a Windows 2008 R2 server (I have also tested it successfully on W7, W8 and 2012 server).

All fakta er hentet fra Wikipedia.

Hysnes fort
