I wanted to create a simple chart to show electricity consumption vs. the outdoor temperature. Prerequisites: There are a lot of guides and videos of how to install HACS and ApexCharts if you don’t already have it. Just Google it 🙂 Summary Measure power usage I have a lot of different heating options, like floor-heating, heat pump and panel oven. …

After a power failure today, my ESXi server didn’t boot. I ran my ESXi installation from an USB-stick and the screen just went to black when trying to boot from it. As my setup is almost default, the easiest fix is just to re-install it from scratch. Getting newest available version of ESXi Look like VMware is still greedy and …

I bought a Philips Hue Being ceiling lamp. This is pre-paired with a remote and can be added to the Hue bridge with its serial number. This a nice feature and easy if you have a Hue-bridge, but how do you get it into deCONZ? The manual does not say anything about how to unpair it. When I google, I …

For almost two years ago, I wrote an article about controlling by garagedoor with the Qubino Flush 1D Relay. I always had a plan to add some status-sensor to the garage door. I started with a 433MHz sensor, but it was never a success. It was hard to place a magnet-sensor and 433MHz is not the best option – so …

For some reason the Leaf-component in Home Assistant has not been working for some time. Since November 2020 according to the community forum. UPDATE: Before you read any futher… Home Assistant bumped pycarwings2 to 2.10 in the last 2020.12.2 release. I actually found this out just when I was going to add the data from the solution below, into HA. …

Migrate from Zwave-integration to OpenZwave (beta)

Usually I just use root-password to setup a server for the first time, but this time I decided to try SSH key upon creating the server – instead of adding it afterwards. That was a bad move. No supported authentication methods available (server sent public key) I didn’t find any root-password. Probably because Digital Ocean don’t tell you that if …

After using two workdays to configure four Sonos speakers for a youth club at work, I found that Sonos has big issues with their onboarding. There are several of forums with problems around Sonos and UniFi-network, but I think this is more a Sonos- or timing-issue, than a network issue. I gave up the Sonos Beam the first day, after …

I installed Home Assistant on a old computer with Ubuntu server back in 2016. Lately they have released Hass.io, HassOS and changed the name of the basic Home Assistant to Home Assistant Core… I think… There has been a lot of names to keep track on here. I believe I had Home Assistant Core and migrated to HassOS/Hass.io now. My …

In this post, I created a simple PHP-to-MQTT integration for Telldus Tellstick. I used CloudMQTT as a broker, but after upgrading HA to 0.107 it stopped working for some reason. When I started to troubleshoot this, I started wondering why I have used a third-party broker. Maybe it was before I started with docker… So i just fired up an …

My Roborock started to make some weird noises. Sounded like the start of a broken fan/motor. I googled a bit, and found that I was not the first one. I found a similar problem from another person that uploaded a video on YouTube. I contacted Xiaomi support and got this response 40 minutes later: You could try methods below.1. Empty …

It’s now 4 years since I first connected a RX-Multi to control my garagedoors from Telldus. Since then I have slowly moved towards Home Assistant and Z-wave.

To reach this services on their DNS, from your local network, you need edit the host-file on the USG. For my case, one of the services was Home Assistant, which is configured with DNS and certificates. This …

Expanding disk on Linux can always be a pain. Most guides I found requires a restart, which is not always that popular on an production server. This guide was written as we had to expand a disk on our internal webserver at work, running Ubuntu server 16.04.

After problem upgrading to v0.65, I moved my Home Assistant (HA) to docker. Trying to upgrade in virtual environment (VE) was giving an error message that i needed Python 3.5.3.

One of the main reasons for getting into more advanced smarthome, was smoke detectors. I was looking for a control panel for smoke detectors that could notify me if anything triggers, and especially if something triggers in my rental apartment. I ended up with Fibaro smoke sensor (FGSD002) and Home Assistant (HA).

I found this: https://github.com/glynhudson/leaf-python-mqtt, and thought it was a simple task… But nooooo. I have very little experience with MQTT, other than the basics, so this took some time 🙂

Using default git-commands are easy enough (if you are used to it), but this month I have started up two new projects on a clean computer. Setting up git for the first time is not a big issue, but I always start Googling – so this is a simple «from scratch» guide for starting with git on a clean Windows-computer …

One of the drawbacks of using MySQL community is the lack of tools to analyze the server and queries, but with a little help from the Percona Toolkit, this gets a little bit easier.

21.01.2016 Telldus announced a closed beta for their Local API on the ZNet Lite. 24.05.2016 they opened the Local API to public beta. Local API let’s you connect and fetch data directly from the Tellstick ZNet without going through Telldus Live, which can be a huge advantage as it’s faster and more stable.

Just to make it easier for me to find, I’m posting a Jquery boilerplate from Stefan Gabos.

This little project took me about 25 hours, because of a lot of debugging and very little documentation for error messages regarding eBot. With this tutorial I will hopefully help someone else (and future me) to do this in 1-2 hours instead 🙂 My setup Ubuntu 16.04 running as a VM in ESXi 6 eBot v3.1 My local IP for the server …

My last Pi’s was one of the first ones (2x USB) from around 2012/13. I just bought the new Pi 3, but not all was straight forward… First of all, the filesystem is limited to 3,5 GB of my 16GB SD Card – after creating it with the Win32 Disk Imager and the default Raspbian image. «df -h» shows that …

When a webserver uses 100% of the diskspace, there is not enough space to create a session in PHP. In other words people cannot login to your web-application. I had some problems with the httpd logs (/var/log/httpd) over some time with one single webserver. The access log can take up to mulitple gigabytes. After deleting the logs, everything worked fine. After …

Today I installed and tested Fedora Server 23. This version of Fedora comes with cockpit, which are a web-interface for server monitoring. I have mostly used CentOS up to now, but Fedora looks more interesting for the reasons I will mention below. To add my CentOS servers to the Cockpit monitoring, I need to install Cockpit on them as well. Setting up …

Every time I leave my computer alone, I lock it! Or else a colleague change my background to a fat lady or facerape me – as I would have done to them as well 🙂 Weaking up the computer in Windows 8.1 isn’t always flawless, especially if you have multiple monitors. Almost every time I wake my computer up, I …

We have a portal/intranet-webpage at my work, running with Apache, PHP and MySQL. In 2011, a colleague and me sat 16 hours (without a break) and configured kerberos authentication with the Linux webserver. Now in 2015 we needed kerberos with a new webserver. We did write a doc back in 2011, but when you sit for 16 hours – the …
